Times Herald-Record names new director of advertisingCAMPBELL HALL, N.Y. -- Molly Evans, who has more than two decades of experience in advertising sales and management, will become director of advertising at the Times Herald-Record in Middletown in late November. The announcement was made today by Joe Vanderhoof, president and publisher of the Record. “I couldn't be more pleased that Molly has accepted this position. She will be a great asset to our organization and to the communities we serve," Vanderhoof said. "In a fast-growing multi-media organization such as ours, Molly has the knowledge and energy to take our products and services to even higher levels." Evans, who has been publisher of the Santa Cruz Sentinel in California since early this year, previously was advertising director at the Cape Cod Times. All three newspapers are owned by Ottaway Newspapers, Inc. The Sentinel is one of six newspapers Ottaway offered for sale this fall. Dave Regan, who preceded Evans in Santa Cruz, will return as interim publisher. Evans said that “while the sale of The Sentinel has been difficult on all of us in Santa Cruz, I couldn’t imagine a better outcome under the circumstances, for me and my family professionally and personally. “The Times Herald-Record is a progressive newspaper with lots of talent on staff, and in a growing market. I see many exciting opportunities for the advertising department to pursue. Moving back east is definitely ‘coming home’ for us; I was born in upstate New York, and our family is all in Connecticut.” Since joining The Sentinel, Evans has been the driving force behind several initiatives, including the acquisition of La Ganga, a Spanish-language publication, and the launch of The Guide and Santa Cruz Magazine. Evans, 48, left Cape Cod for Santa Cruz as general manager in late 2004. In addition to managing the sales staff at the Cape Cod Times, she was instrumental in developing Internet sales strategy and launching a new glossy lifestyle magazine, Cape Cod View. Evans began her career in classified advertising sales and management, then worked as an advertising and marketing director. She has worked at papers in California, Connecticut, Tennessee and Maine. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Eastern Connecticut State University. Evans and her husband, Tom, and son, Alex, 13, lives in Scotts Valley. Tom is a retired pharmaceutical sales executive. Alex attends Scotts Valley Middle School and is active in PAL football and SVMS basketball. Regan formerly worked at the Times Herald-Record, serving as production coordinator, production manager, assistant to the publisher and assistant general manager before moving to California.
