Dow Jones Names Langhoff CEO of Ottaway Group; Former CEO Wilcox is Retiring

NEW YORK (July 24, 2008)—Dow Jones & Company today named Andrew Langhoff chief executive of its Ottaway local media group.

Mr. Langhoff, 46 years old, previously was senior vice president and general counsel of Ottaway, which includes eight daily newspapers, 15 weekly newspapers, and a collection of magazines and Internet sites in seven U.S. states. He succeeds John Wilcox, who is retiring.

“These are profitable papers in strong markets with a record of achievement in journalism and in business,” said Les Hinton, Dow Jones chief executive. “Andrew’s experience with Ottaway and with online technology and business development make him the ideal leader for this successful local media franchise as Dow Jones moves forward with News Corporation.”

“Ottaway is a healthy, respected organization today because of the leadership and vision of John Wilcox,” Mr. Hinton said. “He helped modernize the franchise while maintaining the Ottaway traditions of excellence and service. We are grateful for all he did for Ottaway and for Dow Jones.”

Mr. Langhoff joined Ottaway in 2003 as general counsel and added responsibility for Internet development in 2004. Before joining Ottaway and Dow Jones, he worked for Walt Disney Co., where he helped launch successful Web sites such as ABCNews.com, Oprah.com, Oscar.com and ran business development for ESPN.com. Mr. Langhoff has also previously worked for the Silicon-valley start-up Virage, Inc. and the New York law firm of White & Case.

“Over the past few years, Ottaway has earned a reputation as one of the most innovative local media groups in the country. We intend to continue to develop a portfolio of products that serves the information needs of our readers and the marketing needs of our advertisers,” Mr. Langhoff said.

Mr. Wilcox started his journalism career in 1970 and joined Ottaway in 1979. He has served as general manager and publisher of several Ottaway newspapers around the Midwest and Northeast, most recently the Cape Cod Times. In 2002, he joined Ottaway’s corporate staff as executive vice president. He was named president in 2003 and CEO of the group in 2006, as well as a senior vice president of Dow Jones.

“For more than seven decades, Ottaway has been ‘the little company that could.’ Our success has come through hard and smart work, and because we stand on the shoulders of extraordinary colleagues who have gone before us. My successor Andrew Langhoff and his team live and breathe innovation and – working with our fine publishers and others throughout the company – will undoubtedly take Ottaway to the next level,” Mr. Wilcox said.

Ottaway’s newspaper assets include: the Times Herald-Record, in Middletown, N.Y.; the Cape Cod Times in Hyannis, Mass.; the Inquirer and Mirror in Nantucket, Mass., the Standard-Times in New Bedford, Mass.; the Pocono Record in Stroudsburg, Pa.; The Record in Stockton, Calif.; The Portsmouth Herald in Portsmouth, N.H.; the Medford Mail Tribune in Medford, Ore.; and the Ashland Daily Tidings in Ashland, Ore.
