New England papers win awards

The New England Newspaper Association has honored several efforts by the Local Media Group.

In its circulation category, the Cape Cod Times has been named Sunday Newspaper of the Year and the daily publication has received an award for being the Distinguished Newspaper of the Year. In addition, Bill Mills of the Times has been named Editorial Writer of the Year.

CapeCodOnline.com won two first place awards – best Web site and top honors for “convergence”, a new category that judges a combination of print and online journalism. First place awards were also received several categories – heath reporting, environmental reporting, racial or ethical issues, sports column writing, illustration, infographics, spot news, advertising general excellence, local color ad, best advertising campaign, best idea for generating ad sales and best sponsorship page.

In its circulation category, The Portsmouth Herald was named Newspaper of the Year. The Herald has won best in class for three straight years.
